Get Your Run On!

A Moving Experience

Do you know that it's rude to count people as you pass them—OUT LOUD? But at the Thanksgiving Day 10k, it's good to move with people, around people and past people (especially with a smile on your face)!

One of the greatest pleasures in life is doing the things people say we cannot do, and have fun along the way. All bets are on that this is race will be a moving experience. It was in 1973 when this bedroom picture was taken, and it still is today!

Oh, and be sure you buy the high tech long sleeve cool shirt for the memories (limited number).

And maybe—just maybe, buy one for the friend you passed at the finish line! It will move him/her too!

You. Really. Can!

Go On a Diet Diet!

Most supermarkets stock more than 30,000 items. What are the experts’ 15 healthiest?
• Almonds • Frozen berries
• Canned black beans • Frozen colorful veggies
• Chicken • Yogurt
• Eggs • Salad greens
• Oranges • Salmon
• Sweet potatoes • Whole grain bread
• Cereal • Pasta
• Dark chocolate
Yes, even the chocolate will keep you healthy, but not the 3 pound size.

Live On Pain-Free!

What are some unhealthy ways of thinking that can cause tension?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I wasting my energy on people and things that really don't matter?
  • Are my expectations realistic?
  • Does that e-mail really deserve a response?
  • Will this matter in a week, by my next birthday, or in ten years?

Wipe That Smile Right On Your Face!

How can you make your life a little healthier—in a minute?

Healthy living isn't as much of a hassle as you might think. Want proof? Try these simple super fast tips:

  • Drink a glass of water.
  • Take 10 deep breaths
  • Think of just three things you're grateful for
  • Listen to your favorite song
  • Say a prayer
  • Go play
  • Call your best friend

Running On Time... and Faster!

What are some exercise MYTHS that won't go away?
  • Myth 1: Stretch first.
Many of us were taught to perform static stretching before a workout — it was part of the warm-up. Research now shows that to prevent injuries, stretch after your workout when the muscles are warmed up from the inside!

  • Myth 2: To burn fat, exercise at a lower intensity.
Forget the "fat-burning zone" — just get out there and move. Your body burns both fats and glucose depending on how long and how hard the effort. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Magic!

  • Myth 3: Strength training will make you gain weight.
If you want to lose weight, strength training is something you should be doing. Adults who do strength training at least twice a week gain muscle tissue, which raises your metabolic rate, burns more calories, and helps with posture and balance. Whallah!

I. Really. Can!

Why can I do it?

Because it's the most fun a girl can have
on a holiday morning at 9am!

Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it.
